Richard E. Grant, who has joined the cast of “Star Wars: Episode 9,” shared a video online, explaining how he auditioned and got the role. The actor is very happy about joining the film, and he just can’t stop smiling about it in the video.

In a video released online for his fans, Grant explained that he got a call from his agent, telling him that he has been invited by “Star Wars: Episode 9” director JJ Abrams to come over for a chat. The call was in response to a generic audition scene that he had self taped and sent a few months before the call.

After heading to Pinewood Studios for the meeting, he showed his gratitude to the casting director of the film who got him the chance. During the meeting with Abrams, the director offered Grant the role he was auditioning for. The actor said that he was ecstatic, but tried to remain “cool” about it. In the video however, the actor couldn’t contain his joy.

“I’ve been smiling ever since,” Grant said. He ended the video with a triumphant “yes!”

Disney and Lucasfilm are currently keeping the details about Grant’s character under wraps. The fans may get to find out more about the new character in the coming months.

Grant has played the role of the villainous Dr. Rice in Hugh Jackman starrer “Logan.” It will be interesting to see if he is playing another villain in the upcoming movie.

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is the new Supreme Leader, and there was some tension between him and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) in the previous movie. It remains to be seen if this tension will continue in the next movie. Will Grant’s character offer another dimension to this conflict?

Production of “Star Wars: Episode 9” has started. The film is set to be released on Dec. 20, 2019 in the US.
